According to the European Commission, social inclusion it is “a process that ensures that people at risk of poverty and social exclusion obtain the opportunities and resources necessary to participate fully in life economic, social and cultural and who enjoy a standard of living and well-being considered normal for the society in which they live. Social inclusion guarantees them better participation in decision-making processes that affect their lives and better access to them fundamental rights”.
People with severe and persistent mental disorders generally suffer from a great sense of isolation, of the loss of ability to take initiatives and of live in independent accommodation, keep a job and accomplish normal everyday actions.
These effects, combined with stigmatization and, in some cases, prolonged and repeated hospitalizations in psychiatry, themselves become a factor of social disintegration, leading people to lose their homes, wander the streets and be excluded.
The Liegro Foundation intends to promote active participation of adults with mental distress to community life through artistic and socialization workshops, effective tools to open gaps and break the isolation caused by stigma. The workshops are coordinated by experts in the sector and also include volunteers trained by the Foundation to support people with mental distress in their psychosocial rehabilitation journey.
To achieve these objectives the Foundation proposes these interventions:
